We’re often asked what a nappy cake is. After all, it is only in the last few years that they have really taken off here in the UK. We’re also often asked, are they edible? Although it is formed to resemble the shape of a cake and made from fresh Pampers nappies, we certainly wouldn’t want to chew on one!
A nappy cake, or diaper cakes as they are also known as are becoming increasingly popular here in the UK. They are extremely popular in America and guests bring nappy cakes to a baby shower party as a way of congratulating the mummy to be on her impending birth. A baby shower is a special time for the mummy to be, friends and relatives celebrate together and ‘shower’ the mummy to be with gifts, support and advice.
Nappies (only Pampers will do for us!) are formed into circles to create the shape of a cake. Nappy cakes come in different sizes and the size of the nappy cake depends on the amount of tiers the cake has. Each tier is decorated with useful baby items that the new baby needs and parents will find useful! Ingredients such as blankets, muslins, bibs, mittens, wash cloths.. (The list goes on) are used to decorate the outside of the nappy cake and are used to fill the cake inside. Little Angels nappy cakes are completely handmade and made from high quality ingredients. We’d rather our nappy cakes cost a tiny bit more if it means using higher quality ingredients!
We understand how delicate newborn skin is, we use soft cotton ingredients that is kind to baby’s skin. Once the nappy cake has been decorated and filled, we then carefully wrap the cake in cellophane, add a Little Angels gift tag and tie it with ribbon. The nappy cake can then be given as a baby shower gift or as a gift to friends or relatives once their new baby has arrived.
